About Jonathan W. Heaton

After graduating from school in 2011 with a joint law degree and master’s degree in accounting, Jon spent the following year serving as a law clerk for Judge Valerie Adair of the Eighth Judicial District Court in Las Vegas. He later accepted a position with Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City where he worked for nearly four years as a Vice President of Global Compliance overseeing and advising on various financial industry regulatory compliance matters with firm-wide reach and impact. Along the way, Jon has started and been involved in several side entrepreneurial ventures, which have added depth and “real-life” practical business experience to his legal and financial expertise.

Jon’s education and experiences both prior to and since joining Heaton Fontano have equipped him with invaluable insights and skills that he now uses to represent and advise clients in a variety of business and personal financial settings. Among other things, his current practice encompasses business formations, corporate governance, contracts and transactions, employment issues, strategic business planning, regulatory compliance and risk management, commercial litigation and dispute resolution, and estates and trusts.

Outside of the office, Jon is actively involved in volunteering in his church and community, enjoys exploring the outdoors areas around the Salt Lake valley, plays the violin and piano, and travels internationally as often as he can find the time.

Education & Other Experience

Jon is a graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School and the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University. Jon spent two years living in Thailand (which he considers an important, if informal, part of his education), and is fluent in the Thai language. His bachelor’s degree is in accountancy.
